Areas of Specialization:
Social Change and Development, Sociological Theory, Comparative Institutions, Community and Civil Society, Conflict Resolution, East Asia and China.

Professional Experience:
Prior to pursuing a doctoral degree in sociology in the U.S., Jieli Li was a faculty member in the department of world economy at Fudan University and also a research fellow in development studies affiliated with the Institute for Asian Studies in China. Currently, at Ohio University, he teaches the courses of sociological theory, social change and development, sociology of organizations, and race and ethnic relations, and serves as a core faculty member affiliated with the East Asia Studies Certificate Program in the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2007, he was elected the president of an international professional organization – the association of Chinese professors of social sciences in the U.S. (ACPSS) and will serve his two-year presidential term until 2009.

Jieli Li published extensively in the areas of social change and development, and his most recent article entitled “China’s New Social Security System in the making: Problems and Prospects” has appeared in International Journal of Public Administration (2008).
