DRUMMING PARTY MOVES OUTSIDE FOR SPRING QUARTER
Faculty, students, and community invited to join in
Ohio University’s School of Music, the Center for International Studies, the Multicultural Center, and the Ohio Valley International Council (OVIC) are moving the ‘Live to Drum’ world drumming parties outdoors for spring quarter. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are invited to join in the fun every Tuesday beginning April 8 from noon to 1:00 at the West Portico of Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
World percussion expert and Associate Professor in Ohio University’s School of Music Dr. Paschal Yao Younge – Co-Artistic Director of the African Ensemble - will lead the sessions.
A “celebration of life” is how OVIC Director Laura Schaeffer describes the drumming parties, which began in fall quarter 2007 to provide an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to relieve stress and have fun. The sessions have become tradition for a diverse group of individuals who have participated since the sessions began.
“No matter the age, status, or experience as a drummer, everyone is welcome to join the party,” she said. “Moving it outside this quarter will add to the feeling of rejuvenation this spring.”
The drumming parties are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drums, but extra drums will be provided at the venue. Any questions regarding the world drumming parties can be directed to Laura Schaeffer, Director of OVIC, at schaeffe@ohio.edu or 740-597-2756.
