Communication and Development Studies Program Kicks Off 20th Anniversary Celebration

Ohio University’s Communication and Development Studies Program kicked off its 20th anniversary celebration Monday, October 30, 2006, with lecture by Dr. Suruchi Sood. A 1994 Communications and Development Studies graduate, Sood spoke on “Measuring the ‘How’ and “How much’ of Health Communication Campaigns” at 4 p.m. in Baker University Center’s 1804 Lounge. Sood is an assistant professor in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the senior program evaluation officer for the Center for Communication Programs at Johns Hopkins University.

The CommDev program, directed by Dr. Rafael Obregon, is an interdisciplinary Master’s program jointly administered by the Center for International Studies and the School of Telecommunications. Students focus on a geographic area of the world and a specific area of study, such as health communication or gender issues, and learn communication techniques to promote social change. Past graduates have gone on to work for the United Nations and Nongovernmental Organizations around the world.
