Giving to International Studies

Thank you for coming this far in the donation process.

Every gift made to the Center helps provide others with the same great experiences the Center provided you—the same ones that made your years at Ohio University some of the most enjoyable of your life.

Right now, that means your gift will benefit the more than 1,000 students that study abroad every year, the over 1,400 international students that travel to visit OU every year, and the countless number of exceptional students, such as Damion Croston, who make the world a better place every year.

Croston was able to participate in a University of Texas competition and earn third place for his “Planting Empowerment” project, which aimed to help sustain tropical hardwood plantations. He was even featured in The New York Times.

Three International Studies graduate students were winners of nationally competitive research awards in 2009. Matthew Minarchek received the Fulbright Award; Lilia Krasteva received the Philanthropic Educational Organization Scholarship; and Farina So won the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarship.

Your gift helps support the Center’s unique resources – such as one of only ten US Department of Educational National Resources Centers for African Studies and one of only eight US Department of Education National Resource Centers for Southeast Asian Studies. The Center’s Institute for the African Child, which serves to shed light on the reality of African Children’s lives, celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2009. The Center has also helped to bring famed philosopher Cornel West as a keynote speaker for a conference on Progressive Islam.
Support from alumni and friends like you allows for increased student mobility, development of new global courses and faculty expertise, and increased international programming, all of which is vital to student’s experience and growth.
Here is an idea of what your donation can do:

  • $30 can provide health screenings for three incoming international students

  • $50 can ensure the continuation of subscriptions to online job and Internet resources for students

  • $100 can fund a van to transport students to present papers at regional conferences

  • $500 can bring a visiting lecturer to campus to speak as a part of the International Studies Forum

  • $1,000 can buy a plane ticket for a student to conduct overseas field research
