Certificate in International Studies


Requirements for a Certificate in International Studies

A certificate is available for students who wish to add an international dimension to their major. Students choose an area of focus in Africa, Asia, Europe, or Latin America.

European or Latin American Studies

  • INST 118, or 121 (depending upon area of focus)
  • 5 courses relating to Europe or Latin America in a minimum of 3 disciplines
  • Study of a relevant language through the intermediate level
  • Overall 2.5 GPA in certificate courses

African or Asian Studies

Option A:

  • INST 103, or 113 (depending upon area of focus)
  • 5 courses relating to Africa or Asia in a minimum of 3 disciplines
  • 3 courses of an African or Asian language
  • Overall 2.5 GPA in certificate courses

Option B

  • INST 103, or 113 (depending upon area of focus)
  • 8 courses relating to Africa or Asia
  • Overall 2.5 GPA in certificate courses
